Jamestown (JRMC) — Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) is proud to announce that its own, Dane Grebel, JRMC Support Services manager and emergency preparedness manager, recently completed a training offered by the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), in Anniston, Ala.
Grebel attended the Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents, a four-day course addressing disaster preparedness at the facility and system levels. Leaders within healthcare need to be prepared for any incident that may result in multiple casualties – natural disasters, releases of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and or explosives, or a disease outbreak resulting in an epidemic or pandemic.
Throughout the course, leaders focused on how to make critical decisions regarding all-hazards disaster emergency preparedness activities. They also learned essential disaster-planning response and recovery functions through lectures and then applied during tabletop exercises and a two-day functional exercise.
Grebel, says, “I have completed two different trainings at the CDP; Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents and Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents. The CDP is able to replicate real-world incidents and then escalate the incident to the point of breakdown, failure and ultimately success. The opportunity to learn and practice with the experts from the CDP was an amazing experience. I’m grateful to take what I have learned and apply it to our own emergency operations plans at JRMC.”
A Valley City native, Grebel joined the JRMC team in 2007 as the Environmental & Linen Services supervisor. He became manager in 2011 and added emergency management to his duties in 2018.
The CDP is operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and is the only federally chartered Weapons of Mass Destruction training facility in the nation.

Jamestown (JRMC) — Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, Dec. 5 to help save lives.
The blood drive is open to the community from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. in JRMC Conference Room ABC, located in the lower level.
JRMC Clinical Service Assistant Katie Mittleider says the blood drive is a great event for the community and staff.
She says, “As professionals in the healthcare industry, we see how important it is to have donor blood readily available. That’s why we host blood drives every year.”
People can donate blood up to three times each year.
The JRMC blood drive collects whole blood. During a whole blood donation, nearly 500 ml of blood is collected from the donor and then separated later into components like red cells, plasma and platelets. These are used for patient transfusions.
Mittleider adds,“This will be our 16th time holding a blood drive since 2011 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center. We welcome the opportunity to allow Vitalant into our facility to help us hold the blood drive. Vitalant provides our facility with red cells, platelets and plasma for transfusions.”
To date, the JRMC blood drive alone has collected 979 products of blood for Vitalant. As the sole provider of blood products for 68 area hospitals, Vitalant’s goal is to have at least 250 volunteers each day donate blood.
While most adults can donate blood, some individuals are ineligible.
Certain diseases, like AIDS and hepatitis, prevent people from donating.
Others who are ineligible include people who:
· have used needles to take nonprescription drugs
· have had syphilis or gonorrhea in the past 12 months
· have had the Ebola virus disease or infection
To donate blood and schedule an appointment or for donor eligibility, call (701) 952-4814 or go to www.bloodhero.com and use JRMC as the code.

UJ was forced to play from behind after the Red Raiders closed the half with 12 of the final 17 points and a 57-47 advantage at the break.
Northwestern’s biggest lead of the second half came on Jay Small’s three-pointer that made it 64-51 with 16:09 in the game. Jamestown went on a 15-2 run over the next 3:39 to tie the game at 66 after Jack Talley (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) sank a pair of free throws.
The Jimmies continued to whittle away at the Red Raider lead and got within a single point at 73-72 at the 9:55 mark. Another Northwestern run, this time a 10-4 stretch, pushed the lead back to seven, and UJ could only get as close as two points the rest of the way. The Red Raiders scored 11 of 13 points in a 2:33 span to effectively put the game out of reach.
Talley led UJ with 21 points and added seven rebounds.
