FARGO, N.D. (AP Sept 17, 2013) – ESPN (CSi 14) has decided to stray from its normal game plan for its popular College GameDay show and stage Saturday’s (Sept 21, 2013) event before the North Dakota State game in Fargo.
It will be the fourth-ever Football Championship Subdivision matchup featured on the show. ESPN officials say they like NDSU’s standing as two-time defending FCS champs and current No. 1 team.
The show will be aired in front of the historic Fargo Theatre in the city’s downtown, a move that isn’t popular with all fans. Many wanted it near the team’s indoor football stadium and tailgating area.
ESPN officials say they have been moving away from such backdrops, and say downtown will show the school, city and state in the best light.
Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and Desmond Howard will be broadcasting from the Broadway area of Fargo, before the Bison host Delaware State at 2:30 p.m.
The show airs from 8-11 a.m. CDT
Senator, John Hoeven wrote to ESPN President John Skipper and Executive Vice President for Production John Wildhack to press for NDSU’s selection to host ESPN’s College Gameday.
A movie prop used in an unsettling scene from the movie “Fargo” will be part of Saturday’s ESPN broadcast from the city of the same name.
Charley Johnson with the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitor’s Bureau says the wood chipper from the movie “Fargo” will be on the set of “College GameDay.”
In the movie, one of the characters met his fate through the device.
The visitor center later bought it and put it on display.
Johnson ways he doesn’t know how the ESPN crew will use it.
NDSU hosts Delaware State at 2:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday, on CSi 11 the North Dakota NBC Sports Network.
