Salt Lake City, UT – The University of Jamestown womens soccer team fell just short in a hard fought match Sunday afternoon, losing 2-1 to Westminster College at Dumke Field in the season opener.
The Griffins struck first, with Addie McCallister finding the back of the net in the 34th minute to give her team a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Jimmies battled back early in the second half. Abrianna Madill scored the equalizer for Jamestown in the 54th minute, knotting the game at 1-1. However, the tie was short-lived, as Westminster’s Kara Dickey scored the eventual game-winner just over two minutes later.
Statistically, Westminster controlled the offensive pace, with a 22-5 shot advantage. Jamestown put three of their five shots on goal. UJ goalkeeper Skylar Lind was busy in net for the Jimmies, making three crucial saves in the second half.
The loss moves the Jimmies’ record to 0-1-0 on the season.
Jamestown will look to bounce back in their next match, September 14 in Fayette, Iowa, against Upper Iowa University.
