The statement reads:

On August 6th , 2017 at 5:49 pm, officers of the Jamestown Police Department were dispatched to 1906 4th St NE on a report of two bodies found in the home.  The bodies were found by the fathers of the two deceased persons.  Officers and Deputies responded to the apparent murder-suicide, secured the scene, and were later assisted by agents with the North Dakota BCI.

During the investigation, officers and detectives identified the two deceased individuals as Casey Gene Jensen 33 and Cherish Ranae Petersen 26.  Jensen and Petersen were in a domestic relationship and both were currently residing in the home.  Both bodies were sent to the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

According to information from the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office, Cherish Petersen died as a result of a gunshot wound to the back of the head and Casey Jensen died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.  A Winchester rifle, two shell casings and several other items were taken as evidence during the investigation.

It is believed the shooting occurred in the late evening hours of August 4th or early morning hours of August 5th.  A three month old child was found uninjured in the home, but was taken to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment for dehydration and was later released to family members.
