Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across

much of western and central North Dakota. A few stronger storms

will be possible Wednesday afternoon and early evening across the

James River Valley. Large hail up to quarter size, gusty winds to

50 mph, and dangerous lightning will be the primary threats.

 

Chances for showers and thunderstorms return Friday through

Saturday, especially across western and south central North

Dakota. Severe weather is not expected at this time.

 

Valley City  (CSi)  Music in the Park Wednesday evening has been move indoors to the Valley City Eagles Club due to inclement weather.

Valley City Kroshus & Krew of Wahpeton will entertain at 7:15 pm. .

The statement reads:

On August 6th , 2017 at 5:49 pm, officers of the Jamestown Police Department were dispatched to 1906 4th St NE on a report of two bodies found in the home.  The bodies were found by the fathers of the two deceased persons.  Officers and Deputies responded to the apparent murder-suicide, secured the scene, and were later assisted by agents with the North Dakota BCI.

During the investigation, officers and detectives identified the two deceased individuals as Casey Gene Jensen 33 and Cherish Ranae Petersen 26.  Jensen and Petersen were in a domestic relationship and both were currently residing in the home.  Both bodies were sent to the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

According to information from the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office, Cherish Petersen died as a result of a gunshot wound to the back of the head and Casey Jensen died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.  A Winchester rifle, two shell casings and several other items were taken as evidence during the investigation.

It is believed the shooting occurred in the late evening hours of August 4th or early morning hours of August 5th.  A three month old child was found uninjured in the home, but was taken to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment for dehydration and was later released to family members.

 

Valley City (CSi)  Valley City Police Chief Phil Hatcher reports, that, in conjunction with the United States Marshall’s Service The Valley City Police Department has been working diligently on Wednesday August 9, 2017 in Valley City doing a Sex Offender compliance operation.

Chief Hatcher’s statement said:

“The operation includes face to face visits with every sex offender in (our) jurisdiction to verify all information they provide in accordance with North Dakota Sex Offender Registration requirements.

VCPD works diligently throughout the calendar year to have these compliance checks to ensure public safety information is current, and no violations are present.

VCPD would like to thank, publicly, the efforts of these officers to help us in (our) sex offender compliance program efforts.  Departments involved in this operation include:  VCPD, Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Parole and Probation, Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force, and the United States Marshall’s Services, including the High Plains Fugitive Task Force.

A current list of sex offenders in the Valley City Police Department’s jurisdiction can be found at www.sexoffender.nd.com   This web site has tools to help the public identify offenders in their area.

(CSi) Farm Rescue is looking for volunteers as it continues to provide assistance to farmers and ranchers in need, with “Operation Hay Lift.”

The organization has announced that North Dakota Governor Doug Burugum’s drought disaster declaration has sparked a movement called “Operation Hay Lift”.

Farm Rescue is sending trucks out to haul hay free of charge for ranchers in crisisNearly 130 ranchers have already contacted us for help.”

Farm Rescue is still looking for volunteers to help haul hay for those in need. Over the last week, Angels in Blue Keith Barkema, Jerry Christians, Jerry TerWee and Glen Haekenkamp hauled loads to New Salem, Richardton, Washburn and Zap areas in ND.

Jamestown  (CSi)  The Anne Carlsen Center has finalized an agreement to purchase Dakota Orofacial Myology, in Fargo.

Orofacial myology studies the muscles of the mouth and face that affect speech, swallowing and or chewing,

Anne Carlsen Center, will be able to incorporate this specialty, orofacial myology, and better serve children and adults of all abilities.

Anne Carlsen Center CEO, Tim Essinger says Dakota Orofacial Myology’s skill set will be a valuable resource to the center.

Dakota Orofacial Myology will remain at its current location, at 3509 Interstate Boulevard, in Fargo, and retain its name, staff and services.

 

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a man who led them on a pursuit with a baby in his vehicle.

Sheriff’s deputies chased the man from Walsh County to Grand Forks Tuesday night. Officials did not say why they were pursing the vehicle.  The 21-year-old man ditched the vehicle in Grand Forks and was caught after a short foot chase.

Officers say a 4-month-old child was found in the vehicle. Child endangerment is among the charges recommended by police.

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Court records show former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors to resolve criminal charges filed against her in North Dakota nearly a year ago for protesting the Dakota Access oil pipeline.

Stein faces misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and criminal mischief for spray-painting a bulldozer at a construction site last September. The maximum punishment is two months in jail and $3,000 in fines.

Records show the state filed the proposed plea deal with the court, but the document itself hasn’t been released. A judge still must sign off. Attorneys and Stein didn’t respond to requests for comment on details of the agreement.

Stein told The Associated Press in March that it was “very problematic to have this hanging over my head” and that she wanted the case resolved.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota health officials are gauging interest among laboratories in the state in testing medical marijuana.

The state Health Department is seeking non-binding letters of intent from laboratories by the close of business on Aug. 25.

The agency is establishing a system for making medical marijuana legally available to patients. North Dakota voters last November approved the drug and state government earlier this year approved regulations.

The Health Department earlier this summer sought letters of intent from groups and businesses interested in producing or dispensing medical marijuana, and received nearly 100 responses.

Health officials hope medical marijuana can be available to patients by late spring or early summer next year. The North Dakota Compassionate Care Act allows the use of the drug for 17 medical conditions, along with terminal illnesses.

 

WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) — Wahpeton Mayor Meryl Hansey has stepped away from his public duties as he battles cancer.

The Daily News reports that Hansey has been absent due to illness since June. Members of the City Council said he’s being treated for cancer.

City Financial Director Darcie Huwe says Council President Steve Dale is handling the mayoral duties until Hansey’s return, which is expected sometime in the fall.

 

In sports…

Jamestown  (CSi-UJ)  Cole Bell is the new head coach of the University of Jamestown men’s ACHA Division 1 hockey team.

A former ACHA Division 1 all-star and assistant coach with the Jersey Shore Wildcats, the Davenport, Iowa native will lead the Jimmies into their second season this fall.

Bell helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back North American 3 Eastern Hockey League regular season and cup playoff championships with a combined record of 89-11.

University of Jamestown Athletics Director Sean Johnson, says, “Cole is a perfect fit for the University of Jamestown. He has been successful as a student-athlete and a coach.  He has walked in the same footsteps as our student-athletes and he values what is important to our department and our institution.”

Bell was team captain as a junior and senior at Lebanon Valley College, scoring 16 goals and assisting on 61 others for the Dutchmen.

Bells says,  “It’s a great honor to be named the head coach at the University of Jamestown and I am looking forward to working with our student-athletes.  I know first-hand the demands of playing in the ACHA and I am looking forward to building on the success of last year’s team.

We want to win hockey games and do the right things on and off the ice.  We will focus on a consistent approach that will translate to success on the ice and lead to success after graduation.”

Bell played junior hockey for the Dubuque Thunderbirds and Quad City Junior Flames, where he was a team captain.

Bell succeeds, Dean Stork, who resigned after coaching the Jimmies to a 20-10-3 record in the program’s inaugural year at the ACHA Division I level, finishing seventh in the final ACHA Division I regular season poll.

Stork currently volunteers as assistant coach at NCAA Division I Miami (Ohio).

 

 

Jamestown  (CSi-UJ)  University of Jamestown Athletics announces, that Vince Drahman is the new men’s and women’s golf coach.

The Noblesville, Indiana native comes to UJ from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, where he was a graduate assistant for an Owl program that ranked in the top 10 in the country in both men’s and women’s golf.

University of Jamestown Athletics Director Sean Johnson says, “Vince is a great young coaching talent and we are fortunate to have him join our staff.  He was the consummate student-athlete as an undergraduate and has embraced a modern day approach to the game which will benefit our Jimmie golf student-athletes.”

Drahman helped the Owls to a fourth-place finish at the men’s NAIA championship tournament while the women finished eighth at the NAIA women’s championships.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A research firm tied to a dossier of salacious allegations involving President Donald Trump is turning over thousands of pages of documents to a congressional committee. That’s according to a person familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the arrangement had not yet been publicly announced.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. ambassador to the U.N.’s Conference on Disarmament says he urged North Korea to “end its threatening behavior,” drawing a retort from an envoy from the reclusive Asian country. Ambassador Robert Wood tweeted Wednesday that North Korean “provocations came up at CD informal session” and that he urged Pyongyang to comply with U.N. Security Council demands.

PARIS (AP) — Officials say French police are searching a building in a suburb west of Paris believed to be linked to the chief suspect in a car attack that injured six soldiers. Two officials say the search underway in Sartrouville is part of the investigation into Wednesday’s attack in nearby Levallois. The officials say information about the suspect’s identity is being verified, and it’s unclear whether the suspect lived in the building.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson has suggested fellow Republican Sen. John McCain’s brain tumor and the after-midnight timing of the vote were factors in McCain’s decisive vote against the GOP health care bill. Johnson’s comments in a radio interview drew a response from McCain spokeswoman Julie Tarallo. She said, “it is bizarre and deeply unfortunate that Senator Johnson would question the judgment of a colleague and friend.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Pentagon audit has found a British company hired to train Afghan intelligence officers billed the U.S. government for high-end cars and paid the “significant others” of the firm’s top executives six-figure salaries even though there’s no proof they did any work. Missouri Sen. Clarie McCaskill said in a statement that overall, New Century Consulting “left taxpayers on the hook for over $50 million in questionable costs.” New Century’s CEO says his company is being portrayed unfairly.
