…ACCUMULATING SNOW ACROSS SOUTHERN NORTH DAKOTA TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY…INCLUDES THE JAMESTOWN AND VALLEY CITY AREAS
A potent storm system is expected to bring accumulating snow from
the northern US Rockies to the western Great Lakes Tuesday night
through Friday. While the heaviest snowfall is expected across much
of South Dakota, far southern North Dakota has a potential of
receiving 3 to 6 inches of snow. Most of the snowfall in North
Dakota should accumulate from late Tuesday night through Wednesday
afternoon. At this time it appears that areas along Interstate 94
may see only an inch or less of snow.
People planning travel beginning Tuesday night across southern North
Dakota, and especially those planning travel to Wyoming, South
Dakota, or southern Minnesota, should check the latest weather and
road conditions and stay up to date with the latest forecast.

KINDRED, N.D. (AP) — Firefighters used drone technology to help battle a house fire near Kindred.
Officials say the Cass County Sheriff’s Office drone gave firefighters an aerial view of the fire which allowed them to attack the hot spots. KVRR reports Kindred Fire Chief Rich Schock says the roof had collapsed and the walls were bulging making it unsafe for firefighters to enter Saturday.
One person who was home at the time the fire broke out escaped without injury.

Officers responded to the scene about 5 a.m. Sunday and found a female who was pronounced dead while being transported to a hospital. Her name and age weren’t immediately released.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Fire damaged a Bismarck landscaping business, but firefighters kept the flames from spreading to an area of the building with chemicals.
Firefighters responded to Fertilawn shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday. Police blocked off a large area around the building out of concern that chemicals could catch fire. But the fire was contained to a shop area that contained only lawn mowers and tools.
No one was at the business at the time and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately determined but is believed to be accidental.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A priest in the Catholic Diocese of Fargo has been placed on leave while police investigate his conduct with youth.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Republican-led House wants to force GOP Gov. Doug Burgum to take a salary.
The first-term governor and wealthy former software executive ran on a campaign promise to forgo his salary due to tough spending decisions with a downturn in the state’s energy economy at the time.
House and Senate negotiators two years ago compromised by attaching “legislative intent” to the budget bill that makes clear Burgum was expected to take his pay but the money cannot be spent for any other purpose if he doesn’t.
House budget writers now want to go a step further and have included language in the governor’s budget bill that requires Burgum to take his salary and pay the taxes.
It’s among several issues remaining as the Legislature nears the session home stretch.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Officials are closing a bridge connecting Grand Forks, North Dakota, and East Grand Forks, Minnesota, in anticipation of Red River flooding.
The Sorlie Bridge is to close at noon Monday, so crews can install closure mechanisms before water floods the road.
The National Weather Service says warming temperatures and rain will lead to widespread overland flooding and potential ice jams on streams and rivers in the Red River Valley early this week. A midweek cooldown could slow runoff.

In world and national news…
WASHINGTON (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has resigned amid President Donald Trump’s growing frustration and bitterness over the number of Central American families crossing the southern border.
Trump announced on Sunday in a tweet that U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan would be taking over as acting head of the department. McAleenan is a longtime border official who is well-respected by members of Congress and within the administration. The decision to name a top immigration officer to the post reflects Trump’s priority for the sprawling department founded to combat terrorism following the Sept. 11 attacks.
Though Trump aides were eyeing a staff shake-up at Homeland Security and had already withdrawn the nomination for another key immigration post, the development Sunday was unexpected.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is planning to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a “foreign terrorist organization” in an unprecedented step to ramp up pressure on Tehran.
U.S. officials say an announcement could come as early as Monday and the move could have widespread implications for U.S. personnel and policy in the Middle East and elsewhere.
The Trump administration has escalated rhetoric against Iran for months, but this will mark the first such designation by any American administration of an entire foreign government entity.
Two U.S. officials and a congressional aide confirmed the planned move and spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
The designation comes with sanctions, including freezes on some assets and a ban on Americans doing business with the group.
TOKYO (AP) — Shareholders of Nissan Motor Co. have approved removing its former chairman, Carlos Ghosn, from its board.
The approval Monday was shown by applause from the more than 4,000 people gathered at a Tokyo hotel for a three-hour extraordinary shareholders’ meeting. Other votes had been submitted in advance.
The shareholders also approved the appointment of Nissan’s French alliance partner Renault SA’s chairman, Jean-Dominique Senard, to replace Ghosn. They likewise gave a green light to removing from the board Greg Kelly, who is charged with collaborating with Ghosn in the alleged misconduct.
Ghosn is facing financial misconduct charges and was arrested in connection with fresh allegations and taken back into custody last week after spending barely a month out of detention on bail.
LONDON (AP) — The British government says Prime Minister Theresa May will hold talks with the leaders of Germany and France ahead of a key Brexit summit this week.
Downing Street says May will fly to Berlin Tuesday to meet Chancellor Angela Merkel, then on to Paris for talks with President Emmanuel Macron.
May will lay out her reasons for seeking a further delay to Brexit, currently due to take place Friday.
EU leaders are set to meet in Brussels Wednesday to consider May’s request to delay Brexit until June 30. An extension requires unanimous approval from leaders of all 27 remaining member states. Some, especially Macron, are weary of the Brexit melodrama and unwilling to prolong it.
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Bernie Sanders is embracing a new role: front-runner.
The Vermont senator leads the pack of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates in fundraising and is drawing big crowds in early voting states. Sanders raised more than $18 million in the first fundraising quarter, far outpacing his rivals.
Sanders is embracing his new status.
He draws explicit comparisons with President Donald Trump in his campaign remarks, previewing his approach to a general election faceoff with the incumbent Republican. He’s also building out a larger, more diverse campaign operation. That’s in response to criticism that his 2016 organization skewed too heavily white and male.
Campaign officials say the 2020 campaign staff of roughly 100 people and growing is majority female and 40 percent people of color.
KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Uganda police say that an American tourist who was freed after being kidnapped in a wildlife park will be turned over to the U.S. ambassador Monday, amid conflicting reports over whether a ransom was paid for her release.
Ugandan police said Kim Endicott, from California, and her Ugandan driver were both safe, after the ordeal during which they were taken from Queen Elizabeth National Park across the border to Congo.
Police said no ransom was paid, although the kidnappers had demanded $500,000 after grabbing Endicott and her driver on April 2.
However, an official with Wild Frontiers Uganda Safaris, which organized the kidnapping victim’s itinerary, said Monday a ransom was paid for Endicott. The tour agent spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to press.
