In world and national news…

LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry and Meghan have named their son Archie.

Buckingham Palace says that the baby’s full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The palace made the announcement hours after the couple posed with the two-day-old for the media. He also met his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, for the first time.

He is the queen’s eighth great-grandchild and is seventh in line to the British throne.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler says President Donald Trump’s assertion of executive privilege over special counsel Robert Mueller’s report is a clear escalation of his administration’s “blanket defiance” of Congress.

Nadler made the comments ahead of a committee vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress. The committee is moving to hold Barr in contempt after the Justice Department rejected House Democrats’ demands for a fuller version of Mueller’s report and other documents.

Executive privilege is the president’s power to keep information from the courts, Congress and the public to protect the confidentiality of the Oval Office decision-making process. Asserting privilege would allow Trump to withhold the Mueller materials from Congress.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Trump had to assert privilege due to Nadler’s “blatant abuse of power.”

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (AP) — The student Marine recruit who helped subdue one of the Colorado school shooters gets regular physical workouts and leadership advice but never received military training for dealing with an active-shooter threat.

Marine Capt. Michael Maggiti said Wednesday that Brendan Bialy met regularly before Tuesday’s shooting with a recruiter for exercise and discussions about “what it means to be a Marine.”

Maggiti says none of those sessions addressed threats by an active shooter, but that Bialy and his recruiter did talk about “putting service before self.”

Bialy is a member of the Marines’ Delayed Entry program and the Marines say Bialy put his own safety at risk and showed “courage and commitment” in helping tackle a gunman in the STEM School in the south Denver suburbs.

Two suspects are in custody in connection with the killing of one student and injuries suffered by eight others.

Authorities say 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo was killed after he lunged at one of the shooters.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York’s Senate has approved legislation that would allow congressional investigators to get access to President Donald Trump’s state tax returns, giving Democrats a potential end-run around the administration’s refusal to disclose his federal returns.

The bill that passed Wednesday would authorize state officials to release returns filed by seven different types of state and federal officeholders if requested by congressional committees.

It would apply to returns filed by the U.S. president and vice president, U.S. senators, or the state’s governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general or comptroller.

The measure isn’t scheduled for a vote yet in the state Assembly. Both the House and Assembly are led by Democrats

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has declined to disclose Trump’s federal returns to the House, saying the request “lacks a legitimate legislative purpose.”

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the United States will wait to see if Iran follows through on threats to limit its compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal before deciding how to react.

Speaking in London with British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Pompeo says Iran’s threat to resume higher enrichment of uranium in 60 days appeared aspirational and was vague on whether it would follow through.

Because President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the accord last year, Pompeo says the administration’s position on compliance depends on what Iran does, not what it says it may do.

Iran threatened earlier Wednesday to stop full compliance with the deal unless the European parties are able to deliver on sanctions relief it had been promised. That relief has been hindered by the U.S. withdrawal and the re-imposition of sanctions.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar (AY’-zahr) says drugmakers will soon have to reveal the prices of their prescription medicines in their TV ads.

The Trump administration will issue final regulations Wednesday requiring drug companies to disclose list prices of medications costing more than $35 for a month’s supply. The pricing details are expected to appear in text toward the end of commercials, when potential side effects are being disclosed.

Azar tells The Associated Press if drugmakers are scared to put their prices in ads that means they should be lowering those prices. Drug companies have said they would rather report prices on their websites.

The government’s move is part of a multilevel blueprint President Donald Trump announced last year to try to lower prescription drug costs .
