Jamestown  (CSi)  On Thursday September 5, 2019 the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert, warning residents in the Windsor and Eldridge area of a wanted individual who fled law enforcement officers.

The individual is a black male, five feet 11 inches tall,  wearing black clothing  It’s unknown if the man is armed and residents are asked not to approach the man if he’s spotted.

Anyone seeing  this man, is asked to call 911 immediately, or the Stutsman County Communications Center at 701-252-1000 with information.

Valley City  (CSi) The trial for 22 year old Cornelious Edward Johnson, has been cancelled.

A change of plea hearing for Johnson is set for Thursday at 1pm in the Barnes County Courthouse.

A five-day trial for Johnson from Mesa, Arizona was set for September 30.

Johnson is  accused of shooting a Valley City man in November of 2018.

Johnson is charged with felony counts of attempted murder and a felony count of robbery in connection with the shooting.

Johnson fled North Dakota after the shooting occurred in Valley City.

U.S. Marshals arrested him in Maricopa County, Arizona on January 30, 2019.

The 20 year-old male  who Johnson is accused of shooting, is continuing to recover from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

 

Jamestown  (CSi) A 19 year old Jamestown man is in custody  charged with two counts of Gross Sexual Imposition, a class “A”  Felony.

Dalten Perleberg, was arrested on September 3, and is being held at the Stutsman County Correctional Center, on $5,000 bond, accused of touching and engaging in sexual acts with a person less than 15 years-old from December 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018.

Perleberg is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on September 25.

 

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s fifth medical marijuana shop will open next week.

Herbology in Jamestown is set to open Sept. 11. Dispensaries are already open in Fargo, Grand Forks, Williston, and Bismarck.

Devils Lake will be the next site to open and operate a medical marijuana dispensary.

Voters in North Dakotas approved medical marijuana in November 2016. The state expects as many as 4,000 residents will legally be using medical marijuana by next summer.

Jamestown  (CSi)  Plans are being formulated to refurbish the World’s Largest Buffalo statue at Frontier Village in Jamestown.

Tourism Director Searle Swedlund on Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSI Cable 2, said that while “The Feed The Buffalo,” donation box has collected an amount of dollars toward the project, additional fundraisers may be established, after an inspection of the buffalo is made to determine the extent of the work that needs to be done, and the estimated cost.

On the issue of an agreement yet to be worked on between Pelican Point concessionaires and the Stutsman County Park Board, Searle said, he sees both sides of the issue in the leasing agreement contract negotiations, for the 15 month renewal, starting October 1 this year.  The sticking point is renewal fees and loss of county revenue.

Searle pointed out upcoming events in Jamestown, as Tourism funds grant requests.

He said this Saturday and Sunday is the Jamestown Drag Racing Association’s drags at Jamestown Regional Airport.

Guns of the Old West at Fort Seward is set for Saturday.

Also on Saturday is the Pop Up Trails demonstration.

He said the next Grant/Executive Board meeting is on September 19.  Requests are expected to come from organizations planning events in Jamestown over the winter.

Requests for the next round of funding from the Capital Construction fund must be submitted for consideration before October 1 this year.

Jamestown  (CSi)  Jamestown Reservoir’s disc golf course will host the 20th North Dakota State Disc Golf Championships September 12-15.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — Five people have been arrested on child endangerment and child neglect charges in Mandan and two of them are also accused of dealing drugs.

Police went to a home Tuesday for a welfare check and say they found five children under age 7 who were filthy. Four more children live in the home, but were at school. The five adults, including three men and two women, are charged with child endangerment and child neglect. Police say they found marijuana plants, processed marijuana, jars for growing hallucinogenic mushrooms and drug paraphernalia in the home.

The Bismarck Tribune says two of the five are also charged with manufacturing a controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia. Court documents do not list attorneys for the defendants.

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota regulator says a 2015 pipeline spill of natural gas liquids initially reported as just 10 gallons could top 1 million gallons.

North Dakota regulators say about 837,000 gallons (3.17 million liters) of natural gas liquids has been recovered from the spill.

The agency updated cleanup progress at Oneok Partners’ Garden Creek gas plant in western North Dakota on Tuesday.

Water Quality Division Director Karl Rockeman said Wednesday that public scrutiny has prompted the agency to provide timely updates.

He says about 90,000 gallons (340,677 liters) of contaminated groundwater also has been recovered at the plant near Watford City.

Regulators never updated the size of the spill, even as Oklahoma-based Oneok updated the state on cleanup.

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota tribal leaders have started a campaign to help ensure that their reservations aren’t shortchanged in the 2020 census.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the challenges of getting accurate census counts on remote reservations were discussed Tuesday at a tribal summit in Bismarck.

Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Mike Faith says his tribe has allocated $50,000 that will be used for advertising about the upcoming survey.

Wayne Ducheneaux (DOO’-shah-now) II, executive director of the Minnesota-based Native Governance Center, says many tribal members are worried the census numbers will be used against them.

Ducheneaux, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, recalled how 2010 census workers visited a hotel on the reservation and shared stories about some residents releasing their dogs to attack them.

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Department of Health says it has received its first report of a severe respiratory illness associated with vaping.

Tobacco prevention and control director Neil Charvat said Wednesday an 18-year-old woman called the health department Aug. 28 to report she had sought treatment at a hospital after developing symptoms of a respiratory illness associated with electronic cigarettes.

Reported symptoms have included cough, fatigue, dizziness, headache, vomiting and diarrhea, chest pain, and worsening difficulty breathing.

North Dakota now joins 25 other states who have reported more than 200 potential cases of severe respiratory illness from vaping. The health department is asking health care providers to watch for cases of severe respiratory illness and ask about recent vaping and e-cigarette use.

Jamestown  (uj.edu)  Sioux City Iowa– Sydney Hollingsworth (SR/San Leandro, Calif.) has been named Great Plains Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for women’s soccer, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Hollingsworth scored a natural hat trick in helping the Jimmies to a 7-1 win over York (Neb.) College on Friday. Her three goals came in a span of six minutes and 20 seconds after UJ and York were tied 0-0 at the half.

_ Mookie Betts homered on the first two pitches he saw, collecting four hits and five RBIs in all, and Eduardo Rodriguez allowed just five singles in seven shutout innings to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Justin Wilson and the Mets’ bullpen held on this time, rookie Pete Alonso hit his major league-leading 45th home run and New York bounced back from a brutal loss to stop the Washington Nationals 8-4. A day after a trio of Mets relievers was tagged for seven runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in an 11-10 loss. The Nationals lead the NL wild-card race by three games over the idle Chicago Cubs. The Mets trail the Cubs by 4 ½ games.

_ Joc Pederson hit a leadoff homer and a two-run shot as the Los Angeles Dodgers set a National League record with their 250th long ball this season in beating the Colorado Rockies 7-3 to complete a three-game sweep. _ Reliever Michael Lorenzen hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Cincinnati Reds pulled away to an 8-5 victory that cost the Philadelphia Phillies a chance to gain ground in the wild card race. The Phillies had their three-game winning streak snapped and slipped to three games behind the idle Cubs for the final NL wild card.

_ Aaron Judge hit a go-ahead, two-run homer to keep up his power resurgence, Gleyber Torres added his 34th home run and the New York Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 4-1 to move 43 games over .500 for the first time since 2009.

_ Bryan Reynolds’ two-run bloop single capped a three-run ninth inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Miami Marlins. Elias Diaz started the winning rally with a leadoff homer against Jose Urena that drew the Pirates within a run.

_ Jorge Soler extended his team record with his 40th homer, Hunter Dozier and Alex Gordon had three hits each, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4. The Royals are the last team in baseball history to have a player reach 40 home runs in a season.

_ Shane Bieber (BEE’-bur) struck out nine over seven innings to snap a three-game losing streak and Franmil Reyes (FRAHN’-meel RAY’-uhs) hit a two-run homer as the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 8-6. All-Star Game MVP Bieber allowed two runs and six hits in winning for the first time in five starts since Aug. 9.

_ Kevin Pillar had four hits, including a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning, and the San Francisco Giants rallied to cool off the St. Louis Cardinals 9-8. Brandon Crawford and Mike Yastrzemski also homered for San Francisco, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Paul Goldschmidt drove in four runs and Paul DeJong homered for St. Louis, which lost for just the fourth time in 18 games. St. Louis remained 2 1/2 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

_ Sean Murphy homered for his first hit in his major league debut, Marcus Semien added a two-run shot two batters later and the Oakland Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-0. Murphy drove an 0-1 pitch from Jake Jewell over the right center wall in the fifth inning and replays showed his proud parents cheering and celebrating in the stands.

_ Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Zac Gallen lost his no-hit bid with one out in the seventh inning on a clean single by the San Diego Padres’ Manny Machado. Machado ripped a line drive into right field. The ball was hit so hard, outfielder Jarrod Dyson tried to scoop it up and fire to first base, but he bobbled the transfer and Machado reached easily. Gallen had struck out six, walked one, hit a batter and thrown 88 pitches entering the seventh.

Stanton to increase batting practice ahead of return

UNDATED (AP) _ Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton will head to the team’s minor league complex in Tampa, Florida, this week for batting practice, among the final steps before returning for the final weeks of an injury-wrecked season. The 29-year-old slugger has been limited to nine games with the Yankees this year. He strained his left biceps on March 31 in his third game, strained a shoulder and calf during his rehabilitation and did not return until June 18. Just a week later, he hurt his right knee.

Rafael Nadal reaches 33rd Slam SF at US Open

NEW YORK (AP) — Rafael Nadal has reached his 33rd Grand Slam semifinal and prevented Diego Schwartzman from making it to his first.

Nadal beat Schwartzman 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 in Arthur Ashe Stadium to move a step closer to a fourth U.S. Open championship and 19th major title in all, which would be just one short of Roger Federer’s record.

Nadal will meet No. 24 Matteo Berrettini of Italy in the semifinals Friday.

_ Belinda Bencic powered her way into her first Grand Slam semifinal, wearing down Donna Vekic for a 7-6, 6-3 victory at the U.S. Open. The No. 12 seed from Switzerland advances to face either 15th-seeded Bianca Andreescu or No. 25 Elise Mertens.

Cowboys, Elliott agree on $90 million deal that ends holdout

UNDATED (AP) _ Ezekiel Elliott has a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys, just in time for the regular season.

The star running back and the club agreed on a $90 million, six-year extension that will make him the NFL’s highest-paid player at his position and end a holdout that lasted the entire preseason.

Elliott will get $50 million guaranteed. The $15 million-per-year average on the extension surpasses the $14.4 million Todd Gurley got from the Los Angeles Rams last summer. Gurley’s guarantee was $45 million.

The 24-year-old has a contract that totals $103 million over the next eight seasons.

— Antonio Brown says the Oakland Raiders have fined him close to $54,000 for missing a practice and walkthrough. The star receiver posted a letter on his Instagram account from general manager Mike Mayock saying that he was fined $40,000 for an unexcused absence from practice on Aug. 18 and $13,950 for skipping a walkthrough in Winnipeg on Aug. 22.

— Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is “ready to go” for the season opener against Tennessee after not playing in any exhibition games. Beckham sat out Cleveland’s four preseason games with what the team described as a minor hip injury.

— Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles will start the season on the injury report. The team listed Foles on its initial report Wednesday with an abdominal oblique injury — he had some soreness following training camp — but said he’s expected to play in the season opener against Kansas City. The Jaguars host the Chiefs on Sunday.

— The Tennessee Titans have placed kicker Ryan Succop on injured reserve and have added veteran Cairo Santos to replace him.

— The Denver Broncos have partnered with Empower Retirement on a 21-year deal to name their stadium “Empower Field at Mile High.” The Metropolitan Football Stadium District will meet later this week to sign off on the agreement that runs through 2039 and ends a three-year span without a title sponsor for the stadium that opened in 2001.

Dillon, Packers’ career leader in interceptions, dies at 89

UNDATED (AP) _ Bobby Dillon, the Green Bay Packers’ career leader in interceptions died Aug. 22 in Temple, Texas. He was 89. Dillon was successful despite losing his left eye during his childhood. Dillon’s daughter, Karen Gooch, said the cause was complications of dementia. Dillon played safety for Green Bay from 1952 to 1959, setting the franchise record for interceptions with 52, including four against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day in 1953. Dillon returned five interceptions for touchdowns and led the league in interception return yards in 1956 with 244.

Dillon retired in 1959 after playing just one season for Vince Lombardi. At the time, his 52 interceptions ranked second on the NFL’s all-time list behind Emlen Tunnell.

Coyotes sign forward Keller to 8-year contract extension

UNDATED (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes have locked up forward Clayton Keller through the 2027-28 season, signing him to an eight-year contract extension.

The deal announced Wednesday has an average annual salary of $7.15 million.

The 21-year-old Keller led the Coyotes in scoring last season with 14 goals and 33 assists in 82 games. He also joined Dale Hawerchuk and Teemu Selanne as the only players in franchise history to have four separate points streaks of at least six games within the first 100 games of his career.

— Forward Adrian Kempe has agreed to a three-year, $6 million deal to stay with the Los Angeles Kings. Kempe is a restricted free agent who turns 23 next week. Kempe had 12 goals and 16 assists in 81 games last season for the Kings, the NHL’s second lowest-scoring team with just 199 goals. The Swedish two-way center scored 37 points during the 2017-18 season, his first full NHL campaign.

NBA-BUCKS-STERLING BROWN ARREST

Lawyer: City needs to admit guilt in Bucks player’s arrest

MILWAUKEE (AP) — An attorney for Bucks guard Sterling Brown says Milwaukee’s $400,000 offer to settle Brown’s lawsuit against the city over his arrest last year is insufficient because it doesn’t include an admission of guilt, but, his attorney said that any settlement would have to include such an admission. Brown has 14 days to accept or decline the settlement offer.

Brown contends in his lawsuit that police used excessive force and targeted him because he is black when they confronted him for parking illegally in a handicapped-accessible spot in January 2018.

Kyle Berkshire wins World Long Drive Championship

THACKERVILLE, Okla. (AP) _ Kyle Berkshire won the World Long Drive Championship, beating two-time champion Tim Burke with a 406-yard drive at WinStar World Casino and Resort. After Burke got to 374 on his eighth and final attempt, Berkshire missed the grid on his first three shots before nailing the winner for his first world title and third tour victory of the season. South Africa’s Chloe Garner won the women’s title.

In world and national news..

ABACO, Bahamas (AP) — Thousands of desperate hurricane survivors in the Bahamas are seeking help in Dorian’s aftermath.

One 89-year-old woman and her caretaker waited five days for assistance after the storm blew out their windows and flooded the home with sewage. The storm’s devastation came into sharper focus Wednesday as the death toll climbed to 20 and many people emerged from shelters to check on their homes. They confronted a debris-strewn landscape across Abaco and Grand Bahama islands.

The Bahamian government sent hundreds of police and marines into the stricken islands, along with doctors, nurses and other health care workers. The U.S. Coast Guard, Britain’s Royal Navy and relief organizations including the United Nations and the Red Cross also joined the burgeoning effort.

Dorian is now headed up the Southeastern U.S. coast.

 

 

LONDON (AP) — The European Union says the British government has made no proposals for ending the Brexit deadlock, with a new round of technical talks aimed at ending the impasse set to take place on Friday.

European Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said Thursday that “for the talks to make progress we would need to receive concrete proposals that are compatible with the withdrawal agreement.”

Andreeva says that U.K. negotiator David Frost and his EU counterparts have “agreed to meet again on Friday” in Brussels, following a first meeting on Wednesday.

She declined to speculate on developments in the British Parliament, saying: “Our working assumption is that Brexit should occur on the 31st of October as was demanded by the U.K.”

 

 

(AP)  Weeks after The Associated Press published a story outlining harassment allegations against opera legend Placido Domingo, new women have come forward to say that the superstar groped them, harassed them or behaved inappropriately.

Eleven women shared new stories about encounters with Domingo, who is currently the general director of LA Opera. One woman said he forcefully grabbed her breast under her robe backstage in 1999 and others said his actions included unwanted touching or attempts to kiss them.

Several backstage employees described for the AP how they strove to shield young women from the superstar as administrators looked the other way, as recently as LA Opera’s 2016-2017 season.

In a statement, Domingo’s spokeswoman called the allegations “riddled with inconsistencies” but provided no specifics.

 

 

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan official says the Taliban have detonated a car bomb in front of an Afghan military base that houses members of the country’s special forces and that a small number of international forces also were in the area.

The Logar province council chief Haseebullah Stanekzai says the car bomb exploded in front of the gate of the base in Puli Alam, the capital of Logar province, south of Kabul.

Governor Anwar Khan Es-Haqzai says four civilians were killed and four others were wounded, adding that this information is preliminary.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

The blast comes a few hours after a Taliban suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle at a checkpoint in Kabul, outside a compound where Afghan national security authorities have offices. The Interior Ministry says at least 10 civilians were killed in that attack.

 

BEIJING (AP) — China’s Commerce Ministry says talks with the United States on ending their tariff war will take place in early October in Washington, later than previously planned.

Thursday’s announcement followed new tariff hikes last weekend by both governments and a report that envoys were struggling to agree on a schedule for the talks, which were to have taken place this month.

The Commerce Ministry said the two sides will “conduct conscientious consultations” in mid-September to prepare for the talks.
