Valley City (CCHD) This week, a decision is expected to be made on distributing the Pfizer vaccine for children 5-11 years old.
City County Health in Valley City reports that when a decision is made by the FDA, the local health district will decide on the distribution in schools in Barnes County.
State Immunization Manager Molly Howell, says North Dakota placed an order for 18,000 doses of the pediatric Pfizer vaccine, which will then be distributed to 214 health care facilities statewide.
The pediatric Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds has a lower dosage compared to the COVID-19 vaccine for people 12 and up — about one-third as strong. The pediatric Pfizer vaccine is two shots given three weeks apart. Clinical trial data among children ages 5 to 11, which was released by Pfizer, showed the pediatric vaccine had a 90.7% efficacy rate in preventing symptomatic COVID-19.
St. Paul, Minn. (USACE) –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, plans to drawdown or lower levels of two North Dakota reservoirs, Lake Ashtabula behind Baldhill Dam, near Valley City, and Homme Lake behind Homme Reservoir, near Park River, starting in November.
Both drawdowns normally occur annually in the fall and winter to allow room for spring runoff. Drought conditions have improved significantly since mid-August with above average fall precipitation, which will allow these drawdowns to proceed as normal.
The annual drawdown at Lake Ashtabula is typically scheduled to occur from October through February; however, because of drought conditions this year, it was delayed one month. It will be lowered approximately 3.5 feet from its current level. A discharge of roughly 30 to 150 cubic feet per second, or cfs, is expected during the drawdown.
Homme Lake will be lowered approximately 3 feet from its current level throughout the month of November with a discharge of approximately 20 cfs.
The Corps will closely monitor snowpack throughout the winter and make adjustments as necessary.
Current and historical lake levels and releases can be accessed www.mvp-wc.usace.army.mil or https://water.usace.army.mil. All Corps reservoirs are operated in accordance with detailed water control manuals to ensure the system performs as designed.
Jamestown (City) Starting Monday, November 1, 2021; there will be a road closure on 2nd Ave SW, from 2nd St SW to 3rd St SW. This closure is expected to last until approximately November 16, 2021, or until the utility work is finished.
Construction signing will be put in place by the Contractor.
Motorists should use extreme caution in this area and take alternate routes during this time, if possible.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) —Prosecutors in North Dakota’s first and only death penalty case say defense attorneys are wrong by claiming the judge didn’t go far enough in explaining why he threw out the sentence for Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. Rodriguez was convicted of killing University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin. Judge Ralph Erickson in September ordered a new sentencing phase be conducted, saying his defense team failed to consider key factors. Defense attorneys filed a motion arguing that the judge left out Rodriguez’s intellectual disability as one of those factors. In a response filed Friday, prosecutors said Rodriguez’s attorneys “flatly fail to establish the existence of a manifest error or newly discovered evidence” and “cannot satisfy the very stringent standard to warrant alteration or amendment.”
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Law enforcement agencies statewide will be cracking down on seat belt violations over the next month and a half. The “Click it or Ticket” enforcement campaign with extra patrols is planned Monday through Dec. 16. The campaign is part of the state’s Vision Zero strategy to eliminate motor vehicle crash fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads. A similar campaign this summer generated hundreds of citations in North Dakota. According to officials, a person who failed to wear a seat belt was killed in a crash every nine days in North Dakota last year.

Otis Weah rushed for 156 yards with three touchdowns for the Fighting Hawks.
WORLD SERIES
Astros stay alive
ATLANTA (AP) — The World Series is going back to Houston.
The Astros have forced a Game 6 by turning an early 4-0 deficit into a 9-5 win over the Braves.

Martin Maldonado (mahr-TEEN’ mal-doh-NAH’-doh) drove in three runs, while Yuli Gurriel (YOO’-lee gur-ee-EHL’) and Carlos Correa each had three of Houston’s 12 hits. Correa also collected two RBIs.
Houston began to chip away after Adam Duvall launched a grand slam in the bottom of the first. The Braves’ other run came on Freddie Freeman’s third-inning blast.
The Astros’ bullpen threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings, with Jose Urquidy (ur-KEE’-dee) working a scoreless fourth to get the win. Losing pitcher A.J. Minter was reached for three runs over one frame.
Game 6 is Tuesday.
NFL..
— Backup Cooper Rush threw for 325 yards and a pair of second-half touchdowns as the Cowboys defeated the Vikings, 20-16. Rush’s final scoring pass was a five-yarder to Amari Cooper with 51 seconds remaining. Rush was pressed into service when Dak Prescott was shelved just before game time with a strained right calf muscle.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Carson Wentz played almost flawlessly against division-leading Tennessee — until the final 7 1/2 minutes. Then his old turnover habit resurfaced and it all went awry. After throwing one interception through the first 31 quarters of this season, Wentz’s two late ones proved costly in the 34-31 overtime loss. Wentz blamed himself for miscues. But coach Frank Reich said the problem wasn’t Wentz. Reich said it was his poor play calling.
— The Broncos ended a four-game skid by blocking two field goals on their way to a 17-10 win against Washington. Melvin Gordon III caught a touchdown pass and ran for the go-ahead score from 7 yards out with 4:31 remaining. He also fumbled with 21 seconds to go, giving Washington the ball at the Denver 24-yard line before Denver’s defense held.
— Jimmy Garoppolo (gah-RAH’-poh-loh) threw for 322 yards and ran for two touchdowns as the 49ers knocked off the Bears, 33-22 to end a four-game losing streak. Deebo Samuel had six catches for 171 yards, and Elijah Mitchell carried 18 times for 137 yards and a touchdown for the 3-4 Niners. Justin Fields ran for 103 yards and a score, becoming the first Bears QB to rush for 100 yards in a game since Bobby Douglass in 1973.
UNDATED (AP) — Tom Brady threw for four more touchdowns on Sunday, but his latest interception led to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ second loss of the season.
P.J. Williams picked off Brady and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown with 1:24 left to secure the New Orleans Saints’ 36-27 victory over the Bucs. Brady turned the ball over three times on a pair of interceptions and a fumble, which the Saints converted into 16 points.
The win could be costly to the Saints, who lost quarterback Jameis (JAY’-mihs) Winston to a knee injury early in the second quarter. Backup Trevor Siemian took over for Winston and completed 16 of 29 throws for 159 yards and a touchdown without a turnover. Siemian led the Saints on five scoring drives that produced two touchdowns and three field goals.
Saints coach Sean Payton called Winston’s injury “significant.”
— Josh Allen threw touchdown passes on consecutive second-half drives in leading the Bills to a 26-11 win over the Dolphins. Allen scored on a 7-yard run with 1:07 left and finished 29 of 42 for 249 yards passing for the 5-2 Bills. Tua Tagovailoa (TOO’-ah tuhng-ah-VY’-loh-ah) finished 21 of 39 for 205 yards and an interception in Miami’s seventh consecutive loss.
— Matthew Stafford threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns before taking a seat for the fourth quarter of the Rams’ 38-22 thrashing of the Texans. Cooper Kupp caught seven balls for 115 yards and a touchdown, and Darrell Henderson had 90 yards rushing and two TDs. The 7-1 Rams earned their fourth straight win and handed Houston its seventh loss in a row since a season-opening win.
— Fresh off a convincing win in Baltimore, the Bengals wasted a 31-20 lead in a 34-31 loss to the lowly Jets. Mike White threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns in his first NFL start and he caught a 2-point conversion pass on the go-ahead score. White overcame two early interceptions to complete 37 passes, the most by a player in his first start.
— Randy Bullock made a 44-yard field goal in overtime to cap a wild finish in the Titans’ 34-31 win at Indianapolis. The teams combined for two touchdowns in the final 86 seconds of regulation, setting up overtime before Carson Wentz threw a costly interception. Ryan Tannehill was 23 of 33 for 265 yards and three touchdowns as the 6-2 Titans overcame a quiet day from NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry, who was held to 68 yards on 28 carries.
— The Steelers pulled out a 15-10 win at Cleveland despite playing the entire second half without kicker Chris Boswell because of a concussion suffered on a fake field goal. Pat Freiermuth made a nifty catch in the corner of the end zone to put the Steelers up 15-10 with 11:04 left. Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lihs-bur-gur) had 193 of his 266 passing yards in the second half and improved to 24-3-1 in starts against the rival Browns, including 12-2-1 in Cleveland.

— Adrian Phillips intercepted two passes, returning one for the go-ahead touchdown in the Patriots’ 27-24 victory over the Chargers. Nick Folk kicked four field goals, including a tiebreaking, 30-yard boot with 2:21 left. Mac Jones completed 18 of 35 passes for 217 yards in helping the 4-4 Patriots drop Los Angeles to 4-3.
— Geno Smith ran for one score and threw a pair of touchdown passes to DK Metcalf, sending the Seahawks to a 31-7 rout of the Jaguars. Smith finished 20 of 24 for 195 yards, and his 83.3% completion percentage was a career best with at least 20 pass attempts. Lockett finished with 12 catches for 142 yards for the 3-5 Seahawks.
— Boston Scott and Jordan Howard each had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Eagles in a 44-6 laugher at Detroit. Jalen Hurts had just 14 pass attempts but ran seven times for 71 of his team’s 236 yards rushing as the 3-5 Eagles ended a two-game skid. Jared Goff was sacked a season-high five times and finished 23 of 34 for 222 yards as the 0-8 Lions remained the league’s only winless team.

NASCAR-MARTINSVILLE
Bowman wins after bump with Hamlin
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — The desperation of NASCAR’s playoffs erupted when non-contender Alex Bowman spun Denny Hamlin to set up an overtime victory in a wild finish for the final spot in the championship finale.
Hamlin led 103 laps at Martinsville Speedway and was out front with six to go when Bowman wiggled and bumped Hamlin out of his way. Bowman later held off Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski to win.
The victory by Bowman prevented one of the other playoff drivers from winning the race and locking up a slot in the winner-take-all championship at sold-out Phoenix Raceway next Sunday. A victory by Busch or Keselowski would have pushed either into the finale.
Kyle Larson, reigning champion Chase Elliott, Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. will race for the title.

Remy ended his 10-year playing career in 1985, three years before becoming a fixture in the Red Sox’s broadcast booth. He was a beloved figure in Boston sports, known as “RemDawg” by generations of New Englanders.
In world and national news…
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Americans’ opinions on the U.S. economy have soured noticeably in the past month, a new poll finds. Just 35% of Americans now call the national economy good, while 65% call it poor, according to a poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. That’s a dip since September, when 45% called the economy good, and a return to about where views of the nation’s economy stood in January and February. Roughly half of Americans now say they expect the economy to get worse in the next year. Still, the majority of individuals remain optimistic about their personal financial situation.
(AP) Stocks have advanced in Europe and most of Asia, with Tokyo’s benchmark up 2.6% after the ruling Liberal Democrats won a stronger than expected majority in an election Sunday. Shares rose in all regional markets except Hong Kong. The regional gains followed fresh milestones Friday on Wall Street, where the three major indexes set records. The S&P 500 rose 0.2%; the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.3% and the Nasdaq closed 0.3% higher. However, the Commerce Department reported that consumer spending grew just 0.6% in September, a cautionary sign for an economy that remains in the grip of a pandemic and a prolonged bout of high inflation.
(AP) The global death toll from COVID-19 has topped 5 million, nearly two years into a crisis that has not only devastated poor countries but also humbled wealthy ones with first-rate health care systems. Together, the United States, the European Union, Britain and Brazil account for one-eighth of the world’s population but nearly half of all reported deaths. The U.S. alone has recorded over 740,000 lives lost, more than any other nation. The staggering figure is almost certainly an undercount because of limited testing and people dying at home without medical attention, especially in poor parts of the world, such as India.
GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — President Joe Biden is swinging the focus of his battle for fast action against global warming from the U.S. Congress to the world. Biden will make his appeal to global leaders at a U.N. summit in Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday. Biden will ask the global leaders to commit to the kind of big climate measures he is still working to nail down at home. The Glasgow climate summit is often billed as essential to putting the landmark 2015 Paris climate accord into action. Biden is due to announce climate initiatives including billions of dollars in hoped-for legislation to help poorer communities abroad.
